In a region famously isolated from the rest of the planet, there are plenty of hard-to-reach places in the Antarctic, such as crevassed and thinning ice shelves or glaciers squeezing through mountain peaks. And then there are the really remote places to visit, like the Amundsen Sea polynya, where scientists are interested in understanding what’s behind its high biological activity.
