Extreme Environment

Lake Vida isn’t a particularly accommodating place to live. Oxygen is completely absent and what little liquid water exists in this frozen block of ice is up to seven times saltier than seawater. Yet this extreme environment could reveal how life might exist on other worlds and fill in important gaps in the geologic history of the McMurdo Dry Valleys.
